ABOUT MYSELF

My name is Susana and I am Spanish, that is why you will probably notice mistakes in my writing or my way of explaining things. Please, forgive me. I assure you that I will do my best to correct those mistakes.

I decided to write this blog about feline diabetes to contribute with my story and experience through Dunkel, my diabetic cat, with the hope that through it, people who have just discovered that their cat is diabetic, learn a little more about this disease, insulins, syringes, doses, food or problems that can be found from this moment on.

The first thing I have to say is that I am not a veterinarian, but since I have been treating a diabetic cat for more than 7 years, plus 6 years since I created my first blog about feline diabetes, I think that I can provide a lot of information and experience on how to treat a cat with this disease.

As you can imagine, at the beginning I also had a thousand doubts about feline diabetes, of which of course I knew nothing, indeed, I did not even know that animals could have diabetes. That gives you an idea of my ignorance on the subject. However, I had no choice but to learn really fast when I saw the ineptitude and lack of knowledge about feline diabetes that most of the veterinarians I visited had, and on the other hand, those who said they knew were the worst.

After my cat suffered two hypoglycemias that almost killed him, while in treatment with these vets, I decided it was time to learn everything necessary about diabetes to save my cat's life. And that I did but with a lot of effort because I realized that there was very little information about feline diabetes in the network, most of the blogs I found were cumbersome to read or did not say much useful, the information was too short or too complicated to understand with a lot of data that I did not understand. I wrote to some of these pages with the hope that they would clarify my doubts but I did not get any answer from any of them, which frustrated me even more.

That is why I decided to create this blog about feline diabetes, because after more than 7 years of treating my cat, I went through all phases and stages of diabetes and especially because my cat did not visit a veterinarian during his entire illness and he had a great life.

The majority of people who come to my blog is because they have just learned that their cat is diabetic and after the initial shock of such news, they are followed by many doubts, doubts that we often do not see resolved by our veterinarians. Otherwise, no one would feel the need to seek advice in the network. It is at that moment that we start to dive with despair in the net trying to find additional information that solves those doubts. I hope this blog fulfills its purpose and helps you better understand this disease.

By the way, I have received several questions from owners of diabetic dogs and I have to say that although this blog is dedicated to cats, most of the information is also valid for dogs, especially the use of Lantus as the best insulin to treat also our canine friends.
