FOOD FOR DIABETIC CATS

From now on, your cats will only eat food for diabetic cats that are unfortunately more expensive than the other meals that are in any establishment and the brands are also more limited and difficult to find. So, forget about Whiskas, Cat Chow, Pro Plan, Eukanuba or other brands because they are not specialized in diabetic cats. 

In some countries it is difficult to buy this type of food but we always have the option to purchase on-line. 

HILLS 

I recommend Hills m/d for diabetic cats that do not need to lose weight. 

This type of food is low in carbohydrates and high in protein to reduce body fat and control blood glucose levels in diabetic cats. It also has high levels of carnitine to help mobilize body fat; high levels of taurine to help maintain normal levels of insulin; high levels of arginine to support the secretion of insulin and antioxidants to control cell oxidation. 

For diabetic cats who need to lose weight, you have the Hills w/d version. This version is high in fiber so it produces satiety and reduces appetite. 

ROYAL CANIN 

Also you can buy Royal Canin D/S for diabetic cats. Its composition is very similar to Hills m/d. What I usually do is combine the two brands to vary in flavor and texture. 

Kattovit 

Kattovit Diabetes is a food for diabetic cats with low fat content based on beet fiber. Values ​​of fat and energy have been reduced on this diet and this can have positive effects on glucose levels in the blood. The fatty acids of short and medium chain come from the fat. Purina DM Diabetes Management for diabetic cats is intended for cats with high glucose levels. It is high in protein and low in carbohydrates which helps maintain appropriate levels of Insulin. It also contains vitamin E to reduce oxidative stress associated with diabetes and omega 3 and 6. Reduces the need for exogenous insulin in diabetic cats and improves glycemic control. 

Dry food comes in 1.5kg bags and cans containing 195gr. 

I must say that I never gave my cat this food but checking about it on the Internet I found that many people feel very unhappy with it. If someone has a different opinion, please share it with us. 

GranaPet 

This is a German brand of food for both dogs and cats. They don't have a special type of food for diabetic cats but apparently the composition of this food without sugar, make is suitable for diabetic animals. They also assure that cats with digestive sensitivity tolerate this food very well. Its composition directly strengthens the skin and hair, considered as a mirror of health. 

On their website this company explain that they just use  high quality ingredients, and are only processed in Germany and Austria. Furthermore, this company seems to be concerned about the environment and ecology so they use only recyclable containers and stress that are against all animal experimentation. 

They have different flavors such as fish, duck, chicken, or shrimp where the base of this food is the amino sulfonic acid taurine. Also ensure that their food is high meat content; no gluten or cereals, wheat or soy; Granada contains organic, natural source of ellagic acid which provides cellular protection, defense against free radicals and stimulate the immune system; and has no dyes, preservatives or artificial flavors. SHEBA 

There is another brand in the market of wet food that although is not specific for diabetic cats, I have found that there's no sugar added in its composition. This brand can be found in many places and have different flavors. 

Sheba wet food has been improved and now it's sold in packs with four different flavors  (white fish, tuna, salmon, cod, turkey, chicken, duck, beef, rabbit). They have increased fluid intake to promote water need and also provide our pets with proteins, fats and carbohydrates. 

Indeed, in its composition does not take dyes, preservatives or artificial flavors added. 

Important note: Some studies in the United States suggest that wet food is much better than dry food and in the case of diabetic cats that have been fed just with wet food, the diabetes has disappear.
